What is Bonsai? It is a 2000 year old horiticultural art form originating from the orient - of growing a tree in a pot or tray.

The bonsai is a miniture of a fully grown tree or shrub carefully clipped and shaped into the desired shape. Carefully maintained a bonsai can easily outlive it's full size version. They can be passed down from generation to generation.

Bonsai are kept small and most are 2 inches in size to a large height of 3 1/4 feet. They are generally planted asymmetrical in their trays and are triangle in pattern.

Bonsai are not any specific kind of tree or shrub. There are thousands of varieties that could be dwarfed to become beautiful bonsai. Tradition holds that three basic virtues are necessary to create a bonsai: shin-zen-bi standing for truth, goodness and beauty.
